I had lunch last week with a favorite friend and past co-worker from what now seems like a different lifetime. We started out in Human Resources together before I was married and I miss the chance to see her daily.
Our lunch lasted four hours. The waitress seemed baffled.
One of the things my friend told me is that in her new business the best found advice is to remember giver's gain.
And so it is with grief and loss and relationship and healing. Each time we give a layer of comfort is made. We could never imagine the gain by such a simple gesture. The gain that starts with a generous heart.
If you have some extra time today, check out my friend Ericka's new website. Her continuous giving not only impresses me, but inspires.

My husband for over twenty years passed away a year ago this evening leaving behind a twelve year old and four year old son. My eldest son said today was a joyous day because "dad is no longer suffering from the cancer". My youngest said "dad has been visiting heaven long enough now and it is time to come home!" Thankfully, they have made me keep moving forward this year! Reading your book and blog also helped me immensely. Another friend told me once that widowhood is a little easier too if one experienced true love in their marriage (which I did!) I am able to look back on this year not just with sorrow but with pride!! God Bless you and your family and thanks so much for helping me pick up the pieces and still live the gift of life that God gives us!!
